Green Day: Warning![]()
Three years and a lot of growing after their last album, Green Day has returned with exactly what everyone didn't expect them to do.
Since 1994's breakout smash Dookie Green Day has been trying to recapture the energy and magic present on that album. Judging from the sounds on Warning, they have given up on any hope of recapturing the feeling of Dookie. Instead, Warning has a lot of really well made pop-punk tunes, with an emphasis on the pop.
In fact, with the exception of "Misery" (a bizarre polka), the whole album is chock full of catchy pop sounds. I've been listening to it for a couple of days now, trying to get a feel for the album. It's the kind of music that you just can't help but nod your head to. I find myself skipping around in my room just dancing to the catchy melodies and have often caught myself in class singing the words I can pick out of Billie Joe's permanently slurred singing.
The first single, "Minority," is like an amalgam of Green Day's best hits. It has a little acoustic guitar, which lends that "Time of Your Life" feel, but then hits with a bouncy, "Longview" rock and roll vibe.
This is a very bizarre turn for Green Day. Warning is a very enjoyable album, but I don't recommend standing it up next to Dookie.
