A Classic Flick from the Video Vaults: Animal House![]() How could one possible go through four years of college with out seeing the classic movie about college life, Animal House? I recommend that everyone see this movie at least once. It's just too funny. The film starts in 1962 at Faber College when two freshman, Larry Kroger and Kent Dorfman, show up at an Omega Fraternity Rush meeting. Turns out they don't quite fit the Omega image and they are shunned out. They then turn to the Delta Fraternity because Kent's brother pledged there, which makes Kent a legacy. They discover a fraternity full of drunks, slobs, and skirt chasers. The Deltas accept the two young freshman and they experience what it's like to pledge a fraternity, Delta style. Drinking, peeping-tomming, stealing, drinking, a road trip, an affair with the dean's wife, drinking, giving a horse a heart attack, a professor who likes to get high, a food fight, drinking, cheating, and the mayor's underage daughter all add to the craziness of this movie. Did I mention they like to drink? It's all fun and games until Doug Niedermyer and Greg Marmalard of the Omega Fraternity help Dean Wormer put the Deltas on double secret probation. And what happens when the Delta's hear the news that they are the worst fraternity on campus and are at risk of getting kicked out of school? Toga! Toga! Toga! That's right, they throw a Toga party with music supplied by Otis Day and the Knights which leads to a probation hearing that will revoke their charter and kick them out of school. The Delta's get their revenge at the homecoming parade and show everyone at Faber College that the men of Delta Tau Chi won't go without a fight. Theis movie, directed by John Landis, features actors John Belushi (Bluto), Donald Sutherland (Prof. Jennings), Tim Matheson (Otter), Karen Allen (Katy) and Kevin Bacon (Chip Diller). This was Kevin Bacon's first movie, and he wasn't sure of his acting career when the film was released. Look where he is now! If you haven't seen Animal House yet, get off your butt, find a copy, and watch it with some of your closest drinking buddies. It's sure to give you a few laughs. I leave you with an inspirational speech by Bluto, "What's this laying around shit? Nothing's over until we say it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" Otter: "Germans?" Boone: "Forget it, he's on a role." Bluto: "Well it ain't over now. Cause when the going gets tough...the tough gets going. Who's with me? Let's go!!" |
