Halloween Traditions: Spooky or Silly?
| Guest Writer Graphic By: Rachel Thomason

Halloween is the ultimate holiday. One of the best things about this unique day is the phrase "trick or treat!" Halloween is a holiday that invites pranks and pranksters: one that is unlike any other day of the year in that it allows people to break away from their often mundane lives, and transform into any type of being that they desire. A word of advice concerning the popular tricks that you jokers out there partake in- Make sure that your trick is just a trick and not something that could land you a night in the county jail. The following list are the top ten traditions that people like to participate in whenever October 31 rolls around:

1. Toilet-papering houses, trees, and cars

2. Smashing pumpkins in your neighborhood (I said pumpkins, not your neighbor's mailbox.)

3. Lighting a bag of dog poop on fire and setting it on your neighbor's front porch as you ring the doorbell and run away laughing. (Come on, you've all seen Billy Madison.)

4. Egging houses and/or people

5. Carving pumpkins

6. Going to a Haunted House for your yearly fright

7. Participating in costume contests

8. Stealing candy from unsuspecting kids

9. Hiding incognito in your bushes and jumping out and scaring little children nearly to death as they come to your door and innocently ask for candy

10. Watching horror movies

Good job Amanda. I wish more people would follow the no-mailbox-smashing rule. My old neighbor had to write I WILL CATCH YOU on his mailbox lid to keep them away. Needless to say he never really needed a Halloween costume...
