Class Of `99 Honor Roll![]() Daunte Culpepper - Minnesota Vikings: The fourth of the five quarterbacks taken in the first round of the '99 draft is currently playing like he should have been the first taken. Everyone thought he wouldn't be ready to start this year after riding the pine last year behind Jeff George and Randall Cunningham, but he's proven everyone wrong. You can't go wrong when you've got Randy Moss and Chris Carter to throw to. Culpepper has a rocket arm and can turn up the speed and smoke your defense with his feet if you let him. All this comes from a guy who's 6'4 and weighs almost 260 pounds. Donovan McNabb - Philadelphia Eagles: The self-proclaimed Hokie killer during his career at Syracuse, Donavan McNabb did everything that Michael Vick is doing now; he just didn't have America kissing his butt nearly as much as Vick. McNabb was actually who Michael Vick looked up to and idolized when he was in high school. In fact, Vick almost went to Syracuse to follow in his footsteps. McNabb is a part of the new breed of quarterbacks: big, strong arm, fast as they get, and great success has this year. He's still learning but he's making great strides in his second year. Champ Bailey - Washington Redskins: As if I don't talk about Champ Bailey enough, he's another member of the Class of '99 that is putting himself in superstar status. He is already considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and is forcing teams to have to throw to Deion Sanders more than they want to. He can play wide receiver just as well as any young receiver in the league. He's without a doubt one of the up and coming stars of the league. Jevon Kearse - Tennessee Titans: Considered too small too play defensive end at the pro level, Kearse merely broke the NFL rookie record for sacks. He brings speed that has never been seen before at the defensive end position. He has been hurt a little this year but is still a serious threat to knock the living crap out of your favorite teams quarterback. Cade McNown - Chicago Bears: The last of the 5 quarterbacks taken in the first round, McNown is now the full time starter in Chicago and has received his fair share of boo's from the Chicago crowd. This, however, is unfair criticism. McNown is a great quarterback that has pretty decent wheels. He is the only running game the Bears have, and that's pretty darn impressive considering he's the guy that's supposed to throw the ball. He'll get better over time. |
