The story of Office Space is one which with we can all relate. A guy hates his job, hates his boss, is breaking up with his girlfriend, and is just plain sick of it all. That's the humor of director and writer Mike Judge, of Beavis and Butthead fame. In Judge's directorial debut, we see Peter as the tragic player of the biggest obstacle of life: work.
Office Space has it all, making light of all facets of the white collar world, from crappy apartment construction to barbecue parties. The sad thing is that despite is hilariously punching perspective on life, most is not far from reality. Peter is destined to live in a harsh world of memos and number crunching, cubicles and traffic jams.
Thrown into a world of exhausting bosses and irritating waiters, Peter and his two friends, Samir (frustrated that no one can pronounce his 40-syllable last name) and Michael Bolton (irritated that his "pop-singing, no-talent ass-clown" namesake is abusing his good name) run the daily grind. When Peter goes to get psychiatric help, his hypnotist tells him to relax and come back to reality at the snap of his fingers, but ends up dying of a heart attack before he can bring Peter back to his dull existence. It begins as Peter wanders through life without a care in the world. Comedy ensues when he returns to his office and does things his way.

When slacking off appears to be a sign of initiative by his employers, Peter is moved up the ranks. When his friends Samir and Michael learn that they are to be replaced by foreign students, Peter devises a plan to rip off Initech and come out clean.

Office space is more than just a "work sucks" kind of movie, it's a one-two punch at employers everywhere. It's a throwback to the simple days when work was fun and finding a date was simple. I highly recommend this flick to everyone. It'll be sure to give you a laugh or two. Find it in your video store and prepare to laugh at the saddest truth of life: work sucks.
