Last weekend, RU Police officers arrived on the scene of a local fraternity
party. The students were not asked to turn their music down, nor were they
arrested for possession of alcohol or drugs. What did happen will
certainly amaze you.
"It was one of the wildest parties of the year!" said one student who
attended the party.
On March 25 at approximately 12:34 a.m., RU Police Department officers
busted in on some 200 sober RU students to get the real party
started. "It was awesome to have that much free liquor," said one student,
commenting on the police officers distributing gallons of beer and
liquor to approximately 160 students.
The party pretty much was just cake and ice cream for three hours until
those cops showed up with all
the confiscated booze from other parties around campus. One of the cops even
discharged his firearm in order to tap the keg for a couple of female
students.
Although we couldn't get a direct quote from any of the officers involved,
we do have several accounts of hearsay. One officer was quoted as saying
"Yeah, we do this once in a while because the combination of booze and
uniforms almost guarantees a little nookie from some sorority chick."
Another cop made the comment, "Getting booze is really cheap for us. We
spend the first part of the night cleaning up the early-starter parties;
they always seem to have the good
shit."
On the record, Radford University officials remarked, "Doing this sort of
thing is totally against school policy." Later that day, the same official
made a comment off the record: "We think it's a great morale booster and
an excellent way to connect with the kids."
