Lets discuss parking (or lack thereof). I'm sorry, but all the freshmen and sophomores are just going have to wait their turn. I spent many a night walking up from the Dedmon Center, and well, you will have to as well.
I'm talking to all the seniors and juniors out there. We've always bitched about parking. I've always thought the one slim privilege we had was not having to park down at Dedmon anymore. But now I'm in the rat race with all the other upperclassmen and women for two tiny little parking lots on Howe street and one at Tyler Hall.
I know for a fact that all of us are not fitting into them. The situation wouldn't be so bad if they didn't take away the other parking lots, or perhaps cut us a back-way into them around the construction work. The other day, I almost did some off-roading just to see if I could get into one. But I never complain without a solution:
Maybe RU should allow upper-classmen to park with the commuters, at least the upper two parking lots. The commuter lots are huge! The lots wouldn't be so bad for overspill at the very least.
I heard some other proposals that were pretty good and definitely worth mentioning-- How about making everybody park down in the Dedmon lots and start running the buses more often and to more places around campus? For now I'll have to settle for the "Nike solution," and playing a little early-morning "cop tag" when I forget to park my car in a designated area. I'd really like to hear any of your solutions please. If we don't get things changed ourselves, nobody else will do it for us.

Yo Ghost-
Why don't you stop complaining and move on. If you have 3 degrees and have been here for 8 years, you shouldn't be asking for special treatment. you should be ready to grow up and stop hanging around here. we are all real proud of you (big pat on the back). Now get a life and find bigger things to complain about.

Radford University has a problem with bad engineering they are buying up lots left and right and building buildings but not even thinking about parking much. It is just a case of bad design.

Paul,
Perhaps you haven't noticed, but not all of us live 2 blocks from campus, and could "get off our ass" and just mosey on over. Some of us live several miles away. And after sinking some $4,000 (hard earned money, mind you, not from mommy and daddy) into my wife's education each semester(after 8 years of doing the same for myself), and then paying $50.00 on top of that for a permit to be able to park, I feel that we DESERVE to be able to park a little closer to campus than the Dedmon center (you do the commuter thing for 8 years and 3 degrees, and see if you don't agree with me). I say that the University should make all on-campus studends park down there, and free up a few of the upper parking lots. I know it sounds arrogant, but I do feel that after a while, you EARN some rights and priveledges.

What Problem?

There isn't a parking problem; there is a parking inconvenience. There are plenty of spaces at Dedmon. It is sad to see people that live a couple of blocks away driving to campus. Why not just get off of your ass and leave for class five or six minutes earlier? The campus isn't that big. I don't see what all of the bitching is about?

You think parking is bad now, wait until they take out the commuter student lots for the new nursing building. It is going to be twice the size as the International Education building, and it's going to take up the rest of the current available commuter parking lots. Where are commuters going to park now? We already have a problem with parking, could you imagine what it will be like w/o the lots?

There's one thing you should consider, before saying that you should be able to park in the upper commuter lots...there's not even enough space for commuters as it is.... You should try it sometime, around 9 am on a Monday morning. No, the solution lies in making some new parking areas, to replace all of the areas lost long ago to new buildings. Or better yet, assign parking spaces. I pay for the space, and if somebody sits in it, they move it or lose it. No problem. And have tow trucks standing by.
