Not only does ZDNet provide news about technology, product reviews, and stock quotes, it provides many useful services, all free of charge! Joining ZDNet is simple and hassle free. By submitting your name, address, and email, you receive a free web-based email account, free software, newsletters with site and software updates, access to special consumer alerts, and admission into free forums to talk with industry experts. ZDNet also covers daily breaking news and has a shop and compare section where you can get the latest information on scanners, cameras, printers, desktops, and notebook computers.
This power-packed site offers many useful services including Best Buy Tips, Win98 Tips and Tricks, a Y2K Compliance Test, a listing of High-Tech Job Opportunities, the Game Spot, Today's Top Downloads, and 28 unique "Channels" inside ZDNet providing more information and interesting resources. Another recent ZDNet development, ZDTV, broadcasts 24 hour news and technological information. I actually typed in my zip code, and ZDNet sent an email to American Cable Entertainment, RU's cable company, asking to include ZDTV in their channel lineup!

On ZDNet, you can find an impressive library of products for the taking. These products are "Free for all! Every download here is freeware. Not shareware, not demos. These are free to try, free to keep. Help yourself!" Contained in this library is an array of screen savers, games, WAV and sound files, web tools, and graphics tools. In addition, there is a huge 13 category script section which allows you to paste HTML, CGI, DHTML, ASP, Active X, Java, and JavaScript coding into your document. You can prevue the code and see an example before downloading the it if you wish. Check out what this section has to offer! ZDNet also offers a Download Basket where you can hold the products you want and download them all at once at a later date.

"NetMechanic Link Check is a free online link validation tool that can help you find dead links in your site. Our Link Check robot will search your Web site, testing, verifying each link. When we're done we'll report all dead links we found and the status of each link we tested."

Our Load Check robot will search your Web site, testing the load-time (or download time) of each page. When we're done, we'll report all the load times for each of the pages tested and how long they took to download on 14.4, 28.8, ISDN and T1 access speeds."
"NetMechanic's HTML Check is a free online tool that can find errors in your HTML code. HTML Check will validate your Web pages against the HTML standards and point out browser compatibility issues that affect how visitors see your site. It will also find coding errors and offer design tips on how to improve your site."
"Large images are the leading cause of slow loading Web pages. GIFBot can optimize your images by up to 90% without loss of image quality." This is a great tool and can be used with JPG images also!

ZDNet has come in extremely handy. We use it each week and run our graphics through GIFBot. ZDNet is responsible for making Whim not just good design, but good web-design. Our page is cut down by more than half in size when run through LoadCheck. It's great!
