Rogue Squadron:

Reclaim your skies

by: BRIAN KORTE

Blasting through the city high above, you take out Tie Fighters flying deep into the fog. Once they've been destroyed, it's time to protect the rescue ship. Whether or not Star Wars is your thing, you will enjoy Rogue Squadron. This game has something for everyone, and it only gets better if you like Star Wars.

Rogue is a first-person flying game, where you fly the fighter planes in the Star Wars trilogy like the X-Wing, Y-Wing, Speeder, and yes, even the Millenium Falcon. Imperial forces attack rebellion cities and planes. It is your job as leader of the Rogue Squadron to take charge, and defend the Rebellion. And what a fun job it is. This is the most addictive game I have played since Doom 2.

The game follows the theme set forth in the trilogy by director George Lucas. The theme parallels that of the movies in sound effects, color schemes, and musical score. With each aircraft you fly, you have different weapons and abilities. Your experience dictates how difficult it will be to succeed in the given level. Each level builds on the previous level, so it is important to learn the basics in the earlier stages.

Rogue works well with the Microsoft Sidewinder, my controller of choice. Force feedback is available if your controller can handle it. For you audiophiles, Rogue is enhanced for surround sound too. It seems that Lucas Entertainment spared no expense in the production of Rogue Squadron. You will though, Rogue's retail cost is $45. Happy hunting!
