"The Phantom Menace"

Trailer 2

by JACK VASVARY

The second trailer of "The Phantom Menace," which is a full 2 1/2 minutes long, hit theatres and the world wide web on March 12. It is the first and probably the only full-length trailer we will see before the movie is released on May 19th. (moved up from May 20th)

Unlike the first trailer, this one does not focus on Annakin. As a matter of fact, he's hardly in it. This trailer concentrates more on the movie's plot. It still doesn't tell much about what we will see but it does give you hints of things to come.

The trailer is full of computer generated (CG) effects. Lucas actually wants Episode 2 to be almost completely computer generated. Some of these effects are very well done. The battle droids are really life-like. Some of the CG aliens such as Jar Jar Binks are so convincing that you almost forget that they aren't really there.

Some of the effects need work, however The hovering tanks still look fake to me. They are too smooth. They need to add battle damage or some sort of wear and tear to make them more realistic. There are also one or two aliens that need some touching up.

If you haven't seen either trailer yet, here are some places you can find them:

(teaser) Trailer One

(full length) Trailer Two

Trailer two can also be seen in theatres. Here is a list of films which will most likely show the trailer.
