"Nobody can be told what the matrix is." That's exactly how I felt when I
first left the theatre. It was about an hour after seeing the film that I
understood it completely. This wild movie has a complex and totally
original plot which is a nice change from the cookie-cutter plots of some
movies.
I won't go into specifics about the plot. It unfolds as the movie
progresses, and part of the fun was finding out what the Matrix is. You
must pay close attention during the film, or you may find yourself lost
pretty quickly. It's not one of those movies where you can go in and just
expect to pick everything up all at once.
One of the more inventive concepts in the movie involved the characters
gaining "instant knowledge." The heroes in the film explore a virtual
reality world and are equipped with specific knowledge with the click of a
mouse. For instance, Keanu Reeves' character, who does not know Kung Fu,
learns it in just seconds via a computer program.
Another concept from the movie that made me think was about "fate." Most
people in the story believe in fate: the idea that there is something
greater controlling your life. The Matrix is that "fate" in the movie.
Keanu's character does not believe in fate. He believes that he, and only
he, controls his life. That is why he is the possible "chosen one" that
can destroy the Matrix.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, GO SEE IT! If you've already seen it,
take a friend. It's definitely a movie to talk about when you leave the
theatre. It's playing downtown on Norwood Street at the Radford Theatre.
It's also playing at the NRV mall.

Well, I saw the Matrix again last night (along with a sold out crowd of fellow RU students) and it kicked some serious butt. This time I just sat back and had fun with it. It was also a whole new experience watching it with an enthustiastic audience. Everyone, laughed, screamed, and cringed. There were even some great comments shouted by people. (normally I hate that kind of thing)

The Radford Theatre, it's not really there!(not even the spiders :) Go see this movie!

Now see it free on April 22nd at the Radford Theater. The 9:30 p.m. showing is free with a valid ID for students, faculty and staff. Visit the Radford theatre. So there is nothing to do at RU?

Girl what you smokin
the matrix is one of the best movies ever it wasn't a wanna be .. It just set standards higher than you can comprhend. It was Keanu one and only saving grace since bill and ted. The action and story line of this movie is unquie and fun. When I watch it I just wanted there to be more at the ending. I could have sat there another 3 hours if it ment I could have watched more. ( which by the way the website has some excelent based on matrixs stories written by some very good writers.) I highly suggest everyone to go see this movie. Especially in a good theater with Surround sound. It's worth the dough to see in a good theater like the one I saw back home in Newport news.

the matrix was a predictable hacker-noir/sci-fi wannabe movie. the efx were kick ass, true, but the ending really just stopped. it's worth your money, though, and laurence fishburn is such a great actor even though keanu reeves still plays bill or ted or whichever one he was...
