Whim Design Makes Art History

by BRIAN KORTE

An unprecedented design is currently on display at Radford University's Juried Student Exhibition. Whim's Art Director, Michael Sos, submitted a t-shirt design to RU's art department. The design was judged and displayed in RU's Bondurant Center for the Arts. Sos' work was composed entirely in Adobe Photoshop, using a culmination of previous works. The innovative design will be used for the design of Whim's T-shirts in the future.

"I wanted the design to be like the inner-workings of Whim staff. I made the edges jagged to give the appearance that someone had ripped the t-shirt off, and what remains are the mechanical, machine-like gears of a finely-tuned Whim staffer," Sos said. "What I got was something really cool."

The graphic was described by the two-year digital designer as what the Internet would look like if it could be seen flying through the atmosphere. The design, and other student works, can still be viewed Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bondurant Center for the Arts, 1115 Norwood Street. Look for the design throughout campus on T-shirts this spring.

Great Job guys what a great publication. I am part of the band Root 81 and you guys did a lay out on us some time last year I was wondering if you still had that saved anywhere or if there was anyway I can get it. That would be great. All so we would love be back in the publication again if there is ever another chance. Thanks a lot andy

I just wanted to say that Michael Sos really puts a lot of time and creativity into his artwork. I'm sure Radford is pleased to have him. I know I am proud to be his sister. I Miss You, Mike!

You know, I really don't think that Mike is a product of RU's wonderful talent. I think the design is an asset to Mike, and it is good that RU sees that, but RU is WAY behind in this technology. Mike is an asset to RU, not the other way around.

Comments:
Sos' work is very cutting edge his designs give whim the look of professionalism rarely seen at the college level. Radford should be proud of producing such talent.
