Clinton and his Media Circus

by JAMES ANDREWS

Today there is a crisis in the world. It started as a little roar and finally erupted into a heated battle. It is the whole Clinton sex scandal. But is all the hype surrounding the incident worth it? Yes, he did have an affair and yes he did lie to the American public, but was it worth all the time and resources that were spent on proving that he had done what he done? Would it have, and could it have been better spent elsewhere? To answer these questions we all most look at both them, and us for we are all involved without an exception.

The first thing that has to be looked at are the moral issues of the offense. A person that cheats is not much of a person and lying is not much better in my book. Needless to say, this does not look good on Clinton's moral character or the state of moral values in the US today. Yes, the way other countries look at us has definitely changed. If nothing else, the way that we look at ourselves has. It hurts me deeply to think that I live in a country where this action is common place. I think America will have to take a long look at itself in order to change this. It does not come from one cause, but many in a long list of causes, and no one is to blame for all of it.

The second question is that of the legal aspect of the case. Is what President Clinton did really illegal? This is possibly the biggest question on everybody's mind. It is the unclear question in this case. Looking back on the testimony that is at the center of the debate, it does not seem in my mind that the President was in the wrong about his answer. The question that the President was asked and the answer that he gave were both avoiding the point. There was a lot of room for error on both sides of the case. It is just not enough for the President to be impeached just for what they think he did. Keep in mind that this is the legal answer. This does not say that I support his actions. You have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt in a legal case, which is to say that you are 98% or more sure that he did do the wrongdoing.

The third item to consider is the impact on the country that this case has had. It has hurt the stock market, which has trickled down to all of us. Money that could have been spent on better things went to waste on this case where the victims of the case are everyone. Not only that, but it has hurt the image that we had of the Government and ourselves. Both sides of this case are at fault, not just one side. Clinton should have admitted to the affair earlier and defused the situation before it started, or better yet he could have not had the affair in the first place. Kenneth Starr could have done a better job of finding stuff out, or he could have dropped the perjury issue and provide proof that Clinton had the affair. One can wonder about his political and financial benefits of what he has done so far. In any case, this has played out like it is, and it is time to put the case behind us and get to the real business of surviving in this world that we call home.

so what? clinton had a fling and he lied about it! men have been lying about affairs for hundreds of years. just because he's the president doesn't make him any different than every other man. and yeah, he lied to us, but he's been doing it for years...he just got caught this time. we shouldn't stick our noses in his business anyway! personally, i think he should've stuck with his excuse for pot, but this time he coulda said, "i had sexual relations with ms. lewinski...i just didn't have an orgasm!"

" So, what do we do all-knowing annonymos author? Since you have got it all figured out for us, maybe you can tell us what we should think about the solution. Centure, Impeach, Leave Alone?
