Emulation Nation

by MATT WILSON

Throughout the Internet there are programs that are distributed on various sites. They are known as Emulators. Emulators are programs that are designed to play hacked games known as ROMS.

These Emulators play Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and other platforms like it, except they are free. This distribution of Emulators and ROMS is illegal. They, in the course of time, can rip off the gaming industry of Nintendo and SEGA and other vast gaming corporations in the range of millions of dollars.

These Emulators are freely distributed for your computer and are easily located on search engines throughout the Internet. One would say that no one is stopping the distribution, and the government does not have enough power on regulate throughout all sites. I do not think that they realize the magnitude of Emulators, however.

One reason government officials may not take them seriously is because emulators have descriptive tags saying, "24-hour evaluation," which shrouds the truth about emulators. The fact that they are illegal and predominant on the net is of little consequence to the common Internet surfer. The government may never win.
