I'm sure most people reading this have heard at least one urban legend,
stories such as the baby-sitter who receives threatening phone calls, only to find that they
are coming from inside the house, or the story about the wet dog in the microwave.
These stories are passed around at sleep-sleepovers, campouts, parties, through e-mail, and sometimes even in class. Many people think they're just that-- stories. But what if the
stories were true?
In "Urban Legend", which stars Jared Alto, Alicia Wit, and Rebecca
Gayheart, these stories really are coming true, at a small university in New England. Every
year, on the anniversary of the date one of the school's own urban legends supposedly
happened, the students throw a party to commemorate the event. This year, however,
something completely unexpected happens. The urban legends are coming to life in the form of a serial killer who uses urban legends as the basis for murders.
The movie was similar in feeling to movies such as "Scream", and the
suspense builds to a surprise ending that quite possibly leaves room for a sequel. I enjoyed the movie, and I recommend it to anyone that not only likes scary movies, but likes scary
movies that have well-established plots.
