A Closer Look at "Enemy of the State"

by JACK VASVARY

Tony Scott has made one of his best films since "Top Gun." "Enemy of the State" not only has great acting and intense action; it has a great story.

The story is about a man (Will Smith) who is unknowingly given a video tape of a murder committed by a man who works for the NSA. The NSA follows Smith's every move through the latest in surveillance technology. They completely turn his life upside down by deleting all of his bank records and make it seem as if he is cheating on his wife. Now Smith is on the run with no one to help him except an ex- NSA agent played by Gene Hackman. Together they must find out why the NSA is after Smith and try to get Smith his life back.

The acting in this movie was brilliant. I've always been a fan of Will Smith and this was one of his better roles. It was also nice to see Gene Hackman in a film again. He also did a superb job. Jon Voight, who plays the NSA agent who committed the murder and is after Smith, had a memorable role.

This is the type of movie that actually makes you think. It makes you wonder how much surveillance is being conducted by the government. It's a scary thought. They could monitor every move we make. How much surveillance should the government be allowed to conduct on citizens and where is the line drawn between protecting us from harm and invading our privacy? Also, is technology going to far? These are some questions "Enemy of the State" brings up.

So, if you want to see a action packed movie, with great acting, and a plot that really makes you look at things that could be going on that we are unaware of, "Enemy of the State." is the movie for you.
