Imagine waking up at 4:00 in the morning to a loud beeping sound. No, it's not your alarm clock that goes off at 8:00 every morning. It's the fire alarm. Like any other fire drill, you scurry to find your coat and keys and walk down the stairs with the rest of the 1,500 residents of muse into the cold November air.
This past Tuesday, the fire alarm woke up and confused many, if not all, residents of Muse Hall. Students that were gathered outside Muse Hall at 4:15 in the morning were complaining about 8:00 classes and lack of clothing. Many people were wondering why this drill had occurred at 4:15 in the morning.
After sitting outside for almost 20 minutes, the students were directed inside. But, the fun didn't stop there. As everyone nestled back into their warm, comfortable beds and began to fall asleep again, "BEEP! BEEP!" The fire alarm went off again! A lot of profanity was heard throughout Muse this time. The alarm stopped before most people reached the door to head outside.
The rest of the morning was pure chaos. The alarm went off periodically twelve times and finally ended at 5:30 AM. After the second time, most people decided to take a chance and not get up for the next ten alarms.
The false alarms were the result of a broken valve in the boiler room in the basement. Hot steam arose and triggered the system. The wires in the alarm were crossed, and when the fire marshal came to inspect the "fire" everything seemed fine. The basement showed no signs of fire. It took the fire marshal ten more tries to figure out what was causing the alarms. The valve was later fixed by a plumber. As for the residents of Muse; there were many sleepy people in their morning and afternoon classes on Tuesday.

I just want to know what idiot decided to have a fire alarm drill at 4:15 in the morning. There should be no excuse for this incompetence.

The first couple of times the alarm went off, I was annoyed but about the third time it went off, some friends and I decided to just go outside and listen to everyone complain from their windows each time the alarm went off. We each took guesses at how long it would take for the alarm to go off.

From her sensitive and thought-provoking treatment of what could otherwise have been a very "dry" subject, Ms. Meletzke obviously has what it takes to go as far in the field of journalism as she wishes. I wouldn't be surprised to see her on prime-time at a major network as part of summer internship. Looking forward to seeing more articles by her in the future.

All I can say is that girl is brilliant and if I wasn't already involved in a long term relationship I would be all over her. I love girls with brains...that means a lot coming from a Wahoo!
