Most of you have probably wondered at least once how you could help out your community and change the world. Well, maybe changing the world is a little extreme, but how about giving back to your community? You may recycle and help old ladies across the street, but have you ever considered building a needy person a home? You are probably thinking to yourself, "How the hell can I build a house? I don't know anything about hammering a nail, let alone building a house!" Believe me, you're not alone. Most of the members of Habitat for Humanity don't know anything about construction. However, there are people who can build a house and help you out a lot!
Habitat for Humanity helps out a lot of the "not so fortunate" community members. People who can't afford a new house come to Habitat for help. That's where the members come in. A group of about eight to 15 members goes to a site on a designated weekend and devotes the whole weekend to either fixing up or building a brand-new house.
You are probably wondering why college students would give up a weekend to just do more work without getting paid. Believe me, the rewards are greater than any sum of money. You receive a wonderful feeling knowing that you helped someone who needed you. If you want to build houses and help out YOUR community, come to a meeting!
For more information about Habitat for Humanity, e-mail Jill Cook. Meetings are held every other Monday night. Come join us!

VERY good story about a VERY worthwhile cause. It shows when stories are written by someone who REALLY feels they're important vs someone just having to write something. Keep 'm coming Kimber !!

Great new feature for Whim! How about interviewing people who work with the groups or people who've been affected by them in addition to outlining the work that they do?
