Monster Sound

by James Andrews

Let there be sound, and there is sound. The sound card revolution has arrived. No longer shall you live with wimpy sound coming from your computer. There has been an invasion of high tech sound cards on the market lately and it is showing no signs of stopping. One of the leaders of this invasion is Diamond Multimedia’s Monster Sound card. This card uses the A3D sound system to produce 3D sound, even from just 2 speakers. The downside is that if you play DOS games you have to either use the SoundBlaster compatibility mode that the card has or use a different sound card. In Windows 95 however the sound is incredible especially for the games that are made to utilize the A3D surround sound. The sound card leaves you the choice of having two or four-speakers on. The card specializes the sound for the type of configuration that you have. The four-speaker situation is best in most situations. If you like to make midi files this might not be the type of card for you, because the wavetable is only 32 voice and there are other cards out there that have more voices like the SoundBlaster AWE 64. The Monster Sound card is the only card so far that support the PCI bus, which makes the card faster.

For all those gamers out there this is the ideal card for you. The only thing that I wish for this card is that there where more A3D titles out there.
