Power is out, power is out, teacher let the monkeys out!

"NOT"

When I called Tim Longwood at Radford City Department of Public works, he told me that that due to high winds a tree fell on a Sub Transmission line. Thats what caused the power outage to most of the City of Radford's 6,000 + customers. Once the tree was able to be removed the equipment was brought back online. The whole ordeal took only 30 minutes. But I didnt know that this morning...
This morning started like any regular morning. My alarm clock rang at 7:01 and I hit snooze so I would get up at 7:10. I turned on some lights and found the morning news. I called my fiancé to tell her to have a great day, but when I hung up the phone my TV and lights went off. I got that odd twilight zone sort of feeling that somehow the phone was connected to the power in my room. So of course I wanted to test this new theory so I flicked the phone off and on real quickly and I almost filled my shorts when I saw the lights in my room flicker. Could it be that my phone was connected to the power? I glanced outside my window and noticed that the 7-11 across the street was out of power as well. Now I was struggling with the possibility that I had caused a citywide blackout…with my phone!
After I stood in my room trying to convince myself that nothing of the sort had actually happened I began to think about how dependent on power we are. I looked at my clock to figure out how much time I had to get something to eat before class. Obviously there was no time to be told on an electric clock. So I figured I would get ready for class anyway because they would probably have the power on soon. So I went into my bathroom to brush my teeth and when I flicked the light switch…DOH! So I finished getting ready and headed out the door. I felt kind of silly when I started walking for the elevator. I stopped my by office to print out my homework for my class. Oh well, I guess I can turn it in late. So far this lack of electricity was making my day go real smooth, so I decided to get some grub. When I got to Dalton I was greeted by the entire cafeteria staff staring out at the world from behind the first set of doors. No grub this morning I guess.
Basically the entire world had stopped. I couldn't get anything done and I couldn't even get something to eat. Fortunately I guess, the power was turned on just before my eight o'clock class. By then I had already started daydreaming about what I would do with a free day. It makes you wonder what people did before electricity.
