ABOUT AZERBAIJAN

Azerbaijan is situated on the shore of the Caspian Sea, located partially in Eastern Europe and partially in Western Asia. It is the largest country in the South Caucasian Mountains with a population of around nine million people. Azerbaijan has gorgeous natural beauty, with nine of out the eleven world climatic zones present in the country - for example, dry (desert, steppes), continental, Mediterranean, and subtropical. The country has a rich historical legacy and many of the historical sites in Azerbaijan date back to the Late Stone Age.

Azerbaijan is a secular and unitary republic that is currently one of the strongest United States allies in the region. The country is actively fighting international terrorism as a member of international coalitions and contributes to peacekeeping efforts in the region. Azerbaijan has a significant population of resident families from the United States and the United Kingdom, based in the country as part of the rich oil industry. There are 14 native languages spoken in Azerbaijan. The largest segment of the population speaks Azeri, a Turkic language from Altaic family of languages. Russian and English are commonly spoken secondary languages.

The local economy has significant western investment, which greatly contributes to the country's political and economical stability. Baku City, the capital of Azerbaijan, is considered to be one of the most modern and developed cities in the region. The city itself has a population over 3 million people. Azerbaijan's beautiful natural environment, preservation of historical sites and arts-rich culture have made the country one of the most popular tourist destinations in Eastern Europe
