Volunteer for Alumni Service

Radford University’s dedicated constituency assists the university in maintaining and improving upon our reputation as the university of Southwest Virginia in many ways. Volunteers provide support in Admissions, Chapter Activities, Career Networking and Reunion Events. You can make a tremendous difference to RU by donating your valuable time to any of these areas. Please see Reunion and Affinity Group Guidelines for more information.

Chapter Involvement

Chapters are a wonderful way to bring alumni together to share their RU enthusiasm, support and strengthen the university, recruit students and develop professional and leadership networks.

Through chapter involvement you can:

  • Support the admissions efforts in your area;
  • Attend special social and educational functions with other dedicated alumni;
  • Participate in projects that benefit your community;
  • Network with other professionals;
  • Support a scholarship for a student in your area to attend Radford University;
  • Assist with career internships and jobs;
  • And so much more!

Reunion Events

Radford University celebrates special reunions during Homecoming and throughout the year. If you are willing to assist with your reunion, contact Alumni Relations at 888-4RU-GRAD or 540-831-5248 or e-mail at alumni@radford.edu.

Specific tasks that you may be asked to support:

  • Coordinate the events surrounding your special gathering
  • Write letters to your former classmates on behalf of your reunion
  • Telephone your former classmates on behalf of your reunion
  • Help RU locate lost alumni from your class or affinity group
  • Spearhead reunion giving

Admissions

Students are recruited in many ways, but the best technique is recruitment by those who know RU the best. Admissions Volunteers are alumni, parents, students, board members, as well as friends of Radford University. In you are interested in helping us recruit potential students, you can:

  • Identify prospective students
  • Become an Admissions advocate
  • Attend College Fairs in your area on our behalf
  • Contact prospective and accepted applicants
  • Plan, host or attend Admissions receptions for prospective and returning students
  • Attend local high school awards programs to present scholarship certificates.

Some of these opportunities will require that you be trained by the Admissions staff. If you are interested in volunteering your time to the Admissions effort, please call 540-831-5371 or e-mail ruadmiss@radford.edu.

Career Networking

As an RU Alumni Volunteer, you will assist Radford University alumni and students in exploring careers, finding internships and locating job opportunities. If you are interested, contact Career Services at 540-831-5373 or e-mail at csc@radford.edu.

You could assist the RU Career Services efforts by:

Become part of the ever expanding RU Alumni Career Network and serve as a mentor for current RU students.

  1. Discuss your career field with interested students/ or other alumni
  2. Participate as a guest speaker in the Alumni Career Speaker Series held every fall
  3. Serve as a contact for hiring students/ or other alumni within your company
  4. Become part of the externship program and serve as a career host for students interested in observing your field
  5. Encourage your company to sponsor an intern from RU
  6. Provide employment leads to be posted into the new “Hire a Highlander” employment database for RU students and alumni
  7. Promote RU to other companies as a great place to recruit on campus or participate in annual career fair events  

Alumni Representing Radford Inaugurations

President Kyle is invited to numerous university and college presidential inaugurations. When she is unable to attend, the Alumni Association invites alumnae to represent Radford on her behalf. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the alumni volunteers who have represented Radford University.
