Why should I turn off sharing in applications like Kazaa and Audio Galaxy?
It is slowing down RU's Internet connection and the campus network.
It is slowing down your computer.
It is ethically and legally wrong unless you are sharing files that are original works you created or files you have been given permission to share. (The Law)
Will this effect my ability to use Kazaa, Audio Galaxy and other P2P
applications?
Absolutely NOT! By disabling sharing in these applications, you are disabling the ability of other people on the Internet to connect to your computer and download files from you. This will actually speed up your computer since other users will not be connecting to your computer and downloading files.
Remember that you should still consider whether it is Ethically and Legally
right to download these files.
How do I turn off sharing?
Disabling File Sharing is slightly different for each application. This
is not a comprehensive list of instructions and they may be slightly
