How Do I Know if My
Partner Has Changed?
Here are
some questions you can ask yourself that might help you decided whether your
partner has changed enough for you to feel safe and secure with them. These
include:
- Has your
partner stopped being violent or threatening towards me and others?
- Does my
partner still make me afraid when I am with them?
- Is my partner
able to be angry without becoming verbally or physically abusive?
- Am I able to
express anger toward them with out being attacked?
- Is my partner
able to hear and respect what I am saying even though they may not agree
with me?
- Can my
partner negotiate with me without being accusatory or controlling?
- Can my
partner respect my right to say “no”?
- Is my partner
able to let me know what they are feeling most of the time?
- Is my partner
able to express feelings other than anger?
- Does my
partner still make me feel responsible for their anger and frustrations?
- Does my
partner respect my right to be different and to make my own decisions?
- Do I feel
respected and listened to when I want to speak?
- Can I got
out, go to school, or get a job without their “permission”?
