Michael is a native New Yorker who recently relocated to the quiet suburbs of Southwestern Virginia. Michael is currently the Assistant Title IV-E coordinator at Radford University’s School of Social Work. His responsibility includes teaching Child Welfare courses and preparing both undergraduate and graduate students for work in public child welfare across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Michael serves as an advisor, and mentor for many social work students in addition to being the faculty advisor for the Social Work Club.
Michael is a doctoral candidate at the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University. He has also earned a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from State University of New York, College at Old Westbury and Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. Michael was awarded the Paige E. Cook scholar at Columbia University for outstanding contributions to the profession of Social Work. Michael brings over 18 years of experience in the field of Social Work and his colleagues describe him as having a passion for helping people.
Michael has held a number of interesting professional social work positions in a variety of different fields of practice. Prior to joining the team at Radford University Michael was a clinical social worker for Virginia’s Department of Corrections. He also was an adjunct faculty member Kean University in New Jersey. While in New Jersey, Michael was also employed as the Director of Project SEARCH under the auspices of Rutgers University. Additionally, he has also been the New Jersey state coordinator for Social Work p.r.n. and an administrator of a school/community based program for Grand Street Settlement.
Currently, Michael has a private practice in the Roanoke area. He is married and the proud father of 2 wonderful daughters which he considers to be his most precious jewels.
Those who know him will attest that Michael is a dynamic force in the profession of social work, a catalyst of positive change for youth that have made mistakes, and a leader within his community. Michael has adopted the phrase“ It is far easier to build children than to repair men”as his motto and creed.
