The Iron Gate anticline in Alleghany County is a very large anticline near Clifton Forge. The steep cliffs that are part of this anticline are made up of sandstone.

This small Pulaski County syncline has affected groundwater flow in the area. Notice how the water comes from the bottom of the syncline.
