• Greenstone, a metamorphosed basalt, is found throughout the Blue Ridge.

The Catoctin greenstone can be found along the northern Blue Ridge. An excellent exposure can be seen on Interstate 64 at the top of Afton Mountain near Charlottesville.
• Unakite, a metamorphosed granite, can be found in the western Blue Ridge near Roanoke.

Unakite is a metamorphosed granite containing pink orthoclase feldspar, gray smoky quartz, and green epidote. This sample is from the Blue Ridge of Rockbridge County.
