Encyclopedia of Places
Axelford:
A small farming town in the Freelands of the Empire. Garn and Dannix grew
up in this community.
Freelands:
The hundred baronies composing the eastern portion of the Empire, who
typically enjoy some autonomy from Imperial rule in exchange for taxes and
indirect support.
Empire:
A huge amalgamation of human and elven countries under a single unified
monarchy that somehow manages to cohere despite conflicting interests.
Enrika's Forge:
A blacksmith forge and library located in farmlands about a mile from
Axleford. The forge was destroyed by lightning [ER 0].
Fingertip:
An ancient place of testing located about three days south of Axleford.
Fingertip is possibly the site of religious worship or communication with
Beyonders (such as Mirrorwater). A second site might be located at a
Y-shaped tree at the top of the cliffs of karsmagail (spelling) to the
north [ER 16].
Wildlands:
The long southern boundary of the Empire. The Wildlands (or "Nature's
Teeth") is a dangerous uninhabitable region of living forest. The
Wildlands apparently expanded across the demiland neck to the Great Swamp
on ER 4, absorbing or annihilating everything in the area. Ulth is rumored
to have lived in the Wildlands.
Demilands:
A region to the southeast, just outside the Empire, known for trading and
technology. The population includes a large proportion of gnomes and
halflings. The Demilands apparently were absorbed into the territory of
the Liberator.
Flametongue:
A mid-sized city in the Freelands located about one day west of Axelford.
Iron Compound:
One of the largest and most famous Mage Schools, with a role in the Empire
that is similar to a Jedi Academy. As a powerful political faction in the
Empire, the Iron Compound acts as guild and advocacy group for arcane
spellcasters. Troykin is rumored to spent time in the Iron Compound.
Marais D'Tarascon:
Small rice-farming plantation town in the swamp. Unlucky enough to be the
location of Enlightenment, the Eye of the Cheloratrai. The epicenter of a
variety of undead forces, including Marcel D'Tarascon and his zombie
minions (defeated by the party), Jean D'Tarascon and his ghoul minions
(minions defeated or dispersed by the party; Jean was last seen carrying
Enlightenment), Velanna and her ghost minions (including
mind-shield-ring-less Gus, former agent of the Liberator), and Luc
D'Tarascon (who wandered off when the party turned their backs). Also, a
caravan of Marais' townsfolk was carried off to safety by Velanna, the
Ghost Vistani Prophet seeking to right the injustices against her Vistani
people. A much smaller wagonload of refugees was pulled by Garn to Port
D'Ehlour and several continued to Garten with Derla. [ER 07-18]
Port D'Ehlour:
Small port city in the swamp.
Garten:
Small port city in the swamp. A rival city located about one-and-a-half
days south of Port D'Ehlour.
