Scottish Foundation of the Virginia Highlands

Members of Scottish clans take their heritage seriously; their sense of pride is felt by visitors as they watch clans make their away around the field during the mid-day clan march on Moffett Field. The rainbow of colors in the tartan outfits makes the event a colorful display of pageantry and pride.

The Scottish Foundation of the Virginia Highlands and the Scottish Military Society also play a vital role in the festival. The Scottish Foundation of the Virginia Highlands is the Scottish fellowship organization covering western and south central Virginia. Its goal is to promote and to facilitate enjoyment of the Scottish heritage and the uniqueness of Scottish culture. The Foundation does this by sponsoring and also participating in Scottish events throughout the region. The Foundation has always been an organization that is open to anyone who has an interest in Scottish culture or is of Scottish/Celtic descent.

From its original nucleus of eight members, the Foundation started out as the Scottish Society of the Virginia Highlands and spent its first year in selecting a group of events, which included: a Tartan Ball, Robert Burns Night and a St. Andrew's night. Over the last 22 years, this small core of people has grown quickly into over 400 members and an exciting program full of Scottish and Celtic events. The SFVH attends and participates in other various Scottish games and festivals in the region.
