Energy
Management focuses on the most efficient use of building automation
techniques to achieve acceptable environmental conditions for
the building occupants. These techniques include Outside Air Optimization,
Optimum Start Stop, Night Setback, Demand Limiting, Duty Cycling,
Free Cooling, Ice Storage and Building Shutdown during non-use
hours.
Energy
Conservation is a much broader approach to realizing energy
savings. The possibilities here are nearly endless and include
many costly items such as lighting retrofits, flow restrictors,
window tinting, new windows, improved insulation and new motors.
There are many no-cost possibilities such as turning off lights
and copiers when not in use and keeping doors and windows closed
during heating and cooling times.
Energy
Star is a voluntary partnership between the U.S. Department
of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Product Manufacturers,
Local Utilities, and Retailers. These Partners help promote efficient
products by labeling with the Energy Star logo and educating consumers
about the unique benefits of energy efficiency products.
