Post-MSN Admission Criteria

  1. A Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN, MS, or MN) from a nationally accredited school of nursing (National League of Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education).
     
  2. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4.0 scale) from all academic institutions attended.
     
  3. An unrestricted Registered Nursing License in Virginia or state of practice.
  4. Verification of certification/license to practice as an NP or CNS
     
  5. A minimum of one year of full-time (2,000 hours) clinical practice as a RN.
     
  6. An unrestricted Advanced Practice License/registered in Virginia or state of practice.  
     
  7. Completion of courses in statistics, health assessment, and nursing research.
     
  8. Completion of the Radford University graduate application process and application fee.
     
  9. Professional curriculum vitae or resume.
     
  10. Professionally written letter describing career goals and how a graduate credential will assist in meeting those goals. Additionally, a sample of previous academic writing or publication needs to be included.
     
  11. Three recommendation forms and three letters of reference from practicing nursing or medical professionals, nurse educators, or employers specifically addressing the applicant’s potential for success in the DNP program.
     
  12. Personal interview with School of Nursing Graduate Coordinator.

  13. Completion of a criminal background check and health record requirements. Applicants are denied admission for findings that prevent participation in clinical agencies or licensure.
     
  14. Foreign applicants whose native language is not English must achieve an acceptable score on the TOEFL examination and submit an approved credential report for coursework completed outside of the United States.
