Researching Mosquitos

Cassie Bonavita spent her summer in Costa Rica, trying to catch mosquitos. Not because she wanted to be bitten by bugs, but because she wanted to figure out if the local mosquitos were carrying the virus that causes Dengue fever, and if so, whether bacteria living in their guts might protect people from getting infected. Cassie is also Scholar Citizen Initiative Highlander in Action Recipient, which basically means some of her ideas were so good that she won a research award to help pay for her to travel to Costa Rica to do her work.
