V.    Course Description:

Students are introduced to the role of research in the delivery of healthcare.  The scientific method and research process are examined.  The students evaluate and discuss research designs, sampling designs, data collection methods, and data analysis.

VI.    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

  1. Incorporate findings from nursing and health-related research to improve health outcomes.
  2. Describe the scientific method and research process as a foundation of evidence-based nursing practice.
  3. Discuss and critique types of research designs, sampling designs, data collection, and data analysis.
  4. Examine current sources of best-practice research information.
  5. Integrate the relationships among nursing theory, research, and applications to practice.
  6. Identify ethical principles in conducting healthcare research.
