Mental Health Counseling Practicum II

PSYC 644. Mental Health Counseling Practicum II
Eight hours per week for two semesters

Prerequisites: Graduate status in counseling and permission of the counseling committee.

Psychology Committee

A part-time professional experience under the supervision of a graduate faculty member. The student will function as a staff member in a professional setting. Practicum students will be required to attend weekly group supervision class during the semester. This course may be repeated for a maximum of 12 semester hours.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

In addition to on-site professional responsibilities, students also meet as a group with faculty supervisor during regularly-scheduled class time. Format may include staffing and case presentations, discussion, outside readings, and presentation of special topics.

 

Goals and Objectives

The student will develop skills for professional work in the field of counseling psychology, by providing professional experience on-site, couples with appropriate supervision, support, and topical information.

 

Assessment Measures

Students are evaluated on a pass-fail basis. This assessment is based upon site supervisor's written evaluation of student's professional competence; faculty supervisor's consultation with student and site supervisor; and student's satisfactory participation in group supervision activities.
