Prerequisite: Political Science Major or Minor

Introduction to graduate education opportunities and career options for political scientists.  Students are guided in the creation of documents, such as resumes, personal statements, and/or cover letters, needed in the application for such opportunities.

2. Detailed Description of Course

The course introduces students to post-Radford opportunities for political scientists, including graduate school and the work world.

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The course is conducted in weekly lecture meetings which focus on introduction to career/graduate school options. There are also skill-based classes that help students to produce application materials such as resumes, cover letters, personal statements, and to reflect on their goals and aspirations.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

Students will:
    1) Develop skills in job/graduate school search.
    2) Reflect on their personal values, strengths, and goals and analyze appropriate career paths.
    3) Create professional documents for next careers steps.

5. Assessment Measures

Students produce a self-introduction memo, resume, personal statement or cover letter, interview skills, and analysis of how to get the job of their choice (or school of their choice).
