Outdoor Programs

The Department of Student Recreation and Wellness is home to the Outdoor Programs office which is comprised of two distinct entities; RU Outdoors and the Climbing Wall.

The goal of the Outdoor Program is to provide the Radford University community with diverse adventure oriented extracurricular activities that challenge individuals both mentally and physically.

RU Outdoors: Experience the Adventure!

RU Outdoors provides weekend adventures allowing students to explore the outdoor recreational activities in the surrounding New River Valley to include:

  • Rock Climbing
  • Kayaking
  • Caving
  • Canoeing
  • Skydiving
  • Scuba Diving
  • Horseback Riding
  • Backpacking
  • Hiking
  • Skiing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Orienteering
  • Various clinics and certification programs.

RU Outdoors also hosts an outdoor equipment rental facility and trip planning advice center (check out our interactive trip planning map).  To register for a trip, stop by the RU Outdoors office, call us during normal hours of opperation, or click here to register online.  

The Climbing Wall is located in Peters Hall. This facility is open daily and is free to Radford University students. Various clinics are hosted here including: intro to climbing, belaying 101, intro to lead climbing, and the fundamentals of climbing movement.
