Professor of Geospatial Science Grigory Ioffe recently took part in several important activities in Washington D.C.

On Oct. 5, Ioffe participated in a briefing for A. Wess Mitchell, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. Long recognized as a leading expert on Belarus, Ioffe has authored numerous publications on the nation and its leadership.

Following the briefing, Ioffe participated in an interview with the Voice of America digital TV show “Current Time,” addressing recent events in the United States. The program is produced in the U.S. for a Russian audience.  The full interview is available in Russian at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drbqa6t9xwU&t=1888s.

Ioffe appears from the 24-minute-mark to the 31-minute-mark.  While this was Ioffe’s first interview from the studio with this program, he has participated many times before via Skype.

Ioffe has worked at Radford University for 28 years. His teaching and research specialty is broadly-defined human geography. Within this discipline, he has conducted research in the areas of population geography, geography of agriculture, geopolitics and national identity. His research has focused on East European settings and on processes with pronounced spatial dimension, typical for post-Communist countries.

Ioffe has authored and co-authored nine academic books, as well as dozens of peer-reviewed articles. Many of his essays about Belarus can be found on The Jamestown Foundation website.
