Students competing in residence hall sustainability challenge during spring semester

Radford University Sustainability and Housing and Residential Life are hosting this spring the Highlander Cup competition, a semester-long event aimed at teaching and engaging students with sustainability in their residence.

The Highlander Cup Sustainability Competition consists of three separate sustainability challenges: Power Down, Water Conservation and RecycleMania. In each challenge, students in residence halls will compete against each other to reduce energy use and water consumption, and increase recycling based on fall semester baselines.

Each challenge will last three weeks and will be accompanied by intentional programming, flyers and social media.

“The Highlander Cup Sustainability Competition will help students develop an understanding of how their actions affect people and the environment on campus and in Virginia and around the world,” said Sustainability Manager Josh Nease. “It will challenge students to take actions that make a positive impact.”

The Highlander Cup Sustainability Competition schedule includes:

• Feb. 5–25: RecycleMania
• Feb. 26–March 25: Power Down!
• March 26 – April 13: Save Water!

Highlander Cup awards will be presented during the campus Earth Week celebration, April 16-20.
