OURS reception to celebrate student-faculty research

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) is hosting the inaugural Celebration of Student and Faculty Collaborative Research Publications on Oct. 20.

The reception, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in the Joseph P. Scartelli Atrium in the Covington Center, will acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of student-faculty teams that have contributed to their field of study via publication or public performances and showings of their work.

Since 2016, Radford University has seen publications in research, scholarship and creative activities by 32 faculty mentors and 96 undergraduate students, said Joe Wirgau, OURS director and associate professor of chemistry.

“It is our honor to help Radford University publically celebrate the work of everyone who has achieved the highest level of dissemination of undergraduate research and the mentors who have provided these high impact student experiences,” Wirgau said.

The program will include student perspectives from student-researchers Connor Philson and Jessica Mundy, as well as administrative and faculty perspective from Jeanne Mekolichick, assistant provost for academic programs.
