President Hemphill's inaugural Budget Planning Summit recommendations message

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

As a Radford family, we joined together earlier this semester for the inaugural Budget Planning Summit, a day-long interactive event attended by more than 100 students, faculty and staff. The Summit provided an opportunity for the campus community to learn more about the University's operating budget, as well as the budget forecast for the Commonwealth of Virginia. As part of the Summit, students, faculty and staff participated in breakout groups and discussed in detail strategies related to revenue generation, efficiencies and innovation, as well as economic development and programmatic strategies. From these discussions, a total of 17 recommendations were identified.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincerest appreciation to those who participated in the Budget Planning Summit and shaped the aforementioned recommendations. Moving forward, these recommendations will guide the University's budget planning efforts and inform the strategic planning process, which will officially kick off this afternoon with a joint meeting of the Strategic Planning Task Force and a total of nine subgroups, featuring service by more than 170 individuals from the campus and the community. For additional information regarding the Budget Planning Summit, including the breakout group presentations, please visit the Budget Planning Summit website.

I look forward to working with each of you as we bring to life our vision of transforming Radford into an innovative, premier university in the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond, with a keen focus on teaching, research and service.

With Highlander Pride,

Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.
President
