Summer Bridge program highlighted in multiple news outlets

Female high school students from around the region have been participating in a week-long Summer Bridge program at Radford University. The program offers students four main areas of study within STEM and also provides an immersive college experience for the young women.

  • An article in The Roanoke Times profiles the Summer Bridge participants visit to the Radford Army Ammunition Plant where they learned about the plant's efforts to keep industrial pollutants out of the New River.
  • WDBJ Channel 7 also covered how high school girls from around the area used a mock plane crash to study forensics and cyber security. There was no plane, no black box, and thankfully no fatalities. Some of the remains may have been real, but they were only part of the training exercise. Dozens of high school girls in the Summer Bridge program hosted by Radford University spent time studying cyber crimes to determine how someone could hack into an airplane's computer causing it to crash.
