Governor Appoints New Member to Radford University Board of Visitors

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced today that he has appointed Krisha Chachra, of Blacksburg, Va., to the Radford University Board of Visitors (BOV).

Chachra has served as Vice Mayor of the Town of Blacksburg since 2010.  In 2008 she became the founder and president of Downtown Events, Inc. and organizer of "Up on the Roof!"

Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle welcomed Chachra as a new member to the RU board. "I am pleased to welcome Krisha Chachra to the Radford University Board of Visitors. Her leadership and community experiences will be valuable as we chart Radford University’s future in serving the higher education goals of the Commonwealth and our students," said Kyle.

Chachra is the first Indian-American and first under 40 young professional to serve as vice mayor in Blacksburg.  During her career she has also served as a university instructor, freelance writer, journalist, public radio and television host, as well as holding positions in public relations and event planning.  She currently is the editor of Social Scene Magazine and a columnist for New River Valley Magazine.

She earned a bachelor degree in economics and government from the College of William and Mary in 1998 and a master’s degree in public relations from American University’s Graduate School of Communication in 2000.  She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Affairs and Planning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Chachra was appointed to fill the unexpired term of The Honorable Andrew B. Fogarty, Ph.D. through June 30, 2018.
