Creative Arts come alive at RU

Radford University students find a multitude of ways to express themselves on campus and their work is on display during Creative Arts Week.

Creative Arts Week is the final installment of the 2014 BE S.E.E.N. (Be Successful Through Engagement and Education Now) campaign, six themed weeks of educational community and social opportunities, spanning the first six weeks of the school year.

In previous weeks, students have explored clubs and organizations, health and wellness and diversity and inclusion. From Sept. 29 through Oct. 5, they will get to experience the creative power of their peers.

There will be plenty of ways to enjoy the arts during the week, such as:

• Spontaneous performances by Department of Dance faculty and students across campus during this week.
• "Audition Showcase: Works in Progress," an event where performance students present monologues and songs they are preparing for various professional auditions.
• Concerts by RU groups such as the Wind Symphony, Concert Jazz Ensemble and Jazztet.
• "A Different Perspective: A Guided Tour of RU Art," where participants can discover the mysteries of the artwork located all around campus.

The beating heart of the arts on campus is the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), which presents an outstanding calendar of events to provide the campus and community with a variety of performances, exhibits, design and fashion shows, concerts and educational outreach activities.

CVPA prides itself on the combination of artistic and academic excellence across all of the arts disciplines. The college offers programs in all the major art forms across five disciplines: dance, art, music, theatre and design.

Students work closely with faculty who serve as professional mentors and role models. The work of the students, faculty and guest artists combine to make CVPA an artistic and cultural center of this region of the Commonwealth and beyond.
