The perfect time to meet new people is happening now as the Radford University BE S.E.E.N. program presents its Diversity and Inclusion Week!

The BE S.E.E.N. (Be Successful Through Engagement and Education Now) campaign features six themed weeks of educational community and social opportunities, taking place over the first six weeks of the school year.

RU is a dynamic and diverse campus and the BE S.E.E.N. week will celebrate that. From Sept. 23 through Sept. 26 students will have plenty of chances to meet new friends and discover and celebrate different cultures and perspectives.

A variety of events will bring the campus closer together, such as the Living Library, an opportunity to make a personal peace flag, the "Say Hi" campaign, and panels on hazing prevention, diversity and campus safety advocates and the "It Gets Better" project.

"Student involvement in clubs and organizations, leadership activities and other aspects of campus life is positively correlated with academic success," said Steve Lerch, a BE S.E.E.N. organizer and RU's coordinator of retention. "Virtually every faculty member I know at RU will confirm this anecdotally: their best students are fully engaged in the life of the campus."

No matter your background, there are ways to get involved at RU, whether it is academically or in one of the more than 250 clubs and organizations on campus, all of which encourage inclusion on campus.

Diversity doesn't stop at BE S.E.E.N. though. In addition to events sponsored by clubs and organizations throughout the semester, the university will host another week of diversity celebrations from Oct. 13 through Oct. 16.

That occasion is Diversity Awareness Week. Organizers hope to continue the conversations started at BE S.E.E.N. events and stimulate new ones about diversity at Radford.

Events will address topics such as cultural, ethnic and religious diversity, gender equality and LGBT issues.
