McConnell Library will celebrate the 148th birthday of Radford University’s founding president Dr. John Preston McConnell’s birthday on Friday, Feb. 21.

McConnell Day is one of the library's most treasured events and it provides campus with an important link to the past. Festivities, lectures and a special a capella musical performance will be held on the third floor of the library from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Meredith Sommers, archivist at McConnell’s alma mater, Milligan College, will present "Rich Rewards of the Teachers: the Hopwoods, J.P. McConnell, and a Legacy of Education."

David Horton, assistant to the dean of RU’s College of Science and Technology, will share stories and insight about Radford University’s opening semester in the fall of 1913.

The scheduled program will end with a special presentation by Bobby D. McConnell, Grandmaster, McConnell and Related Family Clans.

McConnell Day events are free and open to all friends of Radford University.
