Waldron College announces upcoming special events

For the Spring 2014 semester, the Radford University Waldron College of Health and Human Services (WCHHS) announces two college-wide events - a scholarship symposium and brown bag series.

The WCHHS is inviting oral presentations and posters for the inaugural Waldron College Interprofessional Symposium and Expo. Set for Thursday, April 17, in Heth Hall, the event will be a day-long celebration of the original research and scholarly work of the WCHHS faculty and students, according to Associate Dean Corey Cassidy.

The symposium will feature a keynote address by Provost Sam Minner on interprofessional research and scholarship, faculty and student poster sessions, technical sessions by both faculty and students focused on their peer-reviewed presentations and publications as well as opportunities for roundtable discussions among interdisciplinary groups of faculty and students.

WCHHS students and faculty are invited to submit abstracts for oral presentation and posters of their educational, clinical and scholarship-based work from the 2013-14 academic year.  Oral presentations will be 12 minutes in length and poster presentations will include an hour-long interactive session.

Abstracts should describe the project's research goals, a description of the methods or programs and current results or conclusions.  Abstracts can include works in progress.  Submission must be made electronically by Thursday, Feb. 13, to http:ocs.radford.edu.

The WCHHS will also host the fourth of its six-part Equity Brown Bag Sessions on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. in Heth 044.  Associate Professor of Religious Studies Carter Turner will moderate a session on religious and spirituality perspectives, called "Spirituality and Faith-Based Traditions." Subsequent sessions will focus on intra-college communication and diversity.  The sessions are free and open to the campus community.

The Equity Brown Bag Series, sponsored by the WCHHS Equity Committee, is part of the WCHHS' ongoing effort to promote full participation among its faculty, staff, and students and within the curricula of each of its programs, said Cassidy.
