Radford University Associate Marketing Professor Gary Schirr has been named by Brand Quarterly to its 2014 list of 50 Marketing Thought Leaders over 50.

"Each of the marketing thought-leaders highlighted on this year's list have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with fellow marketers; and have gained the respect of their peers through their words, actions and achievements, in print, online and in person," a Brand Quarterly spokesperson stated. "They are proof that age has little to do with ability; that you're never too young or too old, when you've got talent."

Published in London, Brand Quarterly is a magazine focused on providing content to help business build "from the brand up."

In addition to including Schirr on the list, the magazine quoted the RU faculty member regarding his thoughts on the next five years in marketing and on establishing an engaging social media presence.

For the latter, Schirr replied, "This is a visual age. No content should go out without a picture. A picture is more powerful than words; a video is more powerful than a still picture."

Schirr is no stranger to lists touting social media excellence.

Previously, the social media savant was recognized by Social Media Marketing Magazine as one "who gets it" and was rated No. 3 on the magazine's list of 92 top marketing professors on Twitter.

More recently, Schirr tweeted his way on to another list. In 2013, Blue Focus Marketing listed him among its #Nifty50 Top Twitter Men Writers. The list honored the top bloggers, authors, public relations specialists and journalists on Twitter.

Schirr joined RU's College of Business and Economics faculty in 2007.
