Camp Invention gears up for its fifth year

The College of Science and Technology (CSAT) once again is hosting its nationally acclaimed Camp Invention program for children entering grades one through six.

The popular day camp is in its fifth consecutive year on the RU campus. This year, the program begins on June 24 at RU's Reed and Curie halls.

The weeklong adventure immerses children in imaginative play that reinforces and supplements school-year learning in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Camp Invention has been recognized by the National PTA, Council for Elementary Science International, National Association for Gifted Children, National Science Teachers Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and CNN.com.

Participating children work together to seek innovative solutions to real-world challenges and sharpen critical learning skills such as teamwork and creative problem solving as they rotate through four modules each day. The aim is to make learning fun.

Local elementary school teachers provide the instruction for Camp Invention. They will engage students in the camp's Geo-Quest program while working and learning in Radford University laboratories.

Installment payment plans are available for Camp Invention. Every registration includes a free Camp Invention T-shirt. The program accepts only a limited number of campers. Visit www.campinvention.org or call (800) 968-4332 to reserve a camper spot.
