Phi Kappa Sigma presents check to President Kyle for Greek Leadership

Radford University was honored to accept a generous gift from Phi Kappa Sigma International Fraternity on Saturday, Oct. 19, which will further fund the Greek Leadership Training Fund and Executive Seminar Series.

Jim Egbert '87 presented the donation of $17,350 on behalf of Phi Kappa Sigma – Beta Omega Chapter to President Penelope W. Kyle following an alumni lacrosse game at the university's Family Weekend and Alumni Homecoming.

The donation will significantly boost the Greek Leadership Training Fund, which began with a similar donation of $11,000 by Phi Kappa Sigma in 2012.

Radford alum Jim Egbert '87 presented a check to President Penelope W. Kyle to further support the Greek Leadership Training Fund.

One of the prime results of the fund has been the establishment of the Executive Seminar Series, a six-week long initiative to provide leaders in the RU Greek community with the leadership training needed to better serve the campus. The 20 students chosen to participate in the series share a dedication to their fraternities and sororities, commitment to public service and a desire to take on future leadership responsibilities.

"On behalf of the students who will benefit from this program, we are truly grateful to the RU alumni of Phi Kappa Sigma for their generosity,” said Kyle. “Their support of this important initiative will help prepare RU student and community leaders of tomorrow.”

Participants in the seminar series will have access to RU's vice presidents, senior faculty and Greek alumni. Through building relationships on campus and beyond, the seminars' goal is to bolster the entire Greek community at RU.

"The Greek Leadership Training Fund was established to provide demonstrated leaders in the RU Greek community enhanced leadership training to better serve RU, the community and future employers," said Dan Evans '84, a Radford and Phi Kappa Sigma alum who spearheaded the donations, but could not be in attendance to present the gift.

"The fund and the seminar series are simply additional, tangible examples of why Radford University continues to grow and enrich the lives of its students, as well as the groups, organizations, employers, institutions and communities they serve," Evans said.

RU is home to more than 20 fraternities and sororities. Greeks are a crucial part of the community and their leadership drives many of the initiatives on campus.
