RU Faculty Member I-Ping Fu receives Teaching Excellence Award from Taiwan

Dr. I-Ping Fu

Associate Professor of Chinese I-Ping Fu.

In honor of her work as an educator, the government of Taiwan has recognized Radford University’s  Dr. I-Ping Fu with a Teaching Excellence Award.

Fu attended a banquet in Maryland with 160 other Chinese educators from the Mid-Atlantic region on Sept. 28, a date that marks Teachers' Day in Taiwan. Including Fu, ten of the assembled teachers were honored with an excellence award.

The government of Taiwan bestowed the awards to recognize the contribution that Chinese educators have made on students, schools and Chinese communities.

Taiwan celebrates the Teachers’ Day in commemoration of teachers' struggles and contributions to their students and their society. It is common for people to take time to visit their favorite teachers or send them a card. The date is meant to mark one of the attributed birthdays of Confucius, the famous Chinese teacher and philosopher.

The praise for Fu is echoed on the RU campus.

“Radford University is extremely fortunate to have her as a member of its faculty,” said Dr. Kate Hawkins, dean of the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. “She is an exemplary teacher, incorporating a variety of student engagement activities in her classes. She is also a wonderful ambassador for RU in her studies abroad to China and Taiwan with RU students. One can't talk about Chinese language instruction in our region without referencing Fu's work in the most glowing of terms!"
